Patient-setup

SGRT  have become a cornerstone of modern image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), fundamentally enhancing the patient setup workflow. Their primary clinical value is realized in two key areas:

Enhanced Treatment Accuracy and Safety

  • Reduction in Systematic Errors: By providing a real-time, high-resolution map of the patient's surface,SGRT minimizes initial setup errors. This ensures the treatment isocenter is aligned with the planned position with sub-millimeter precision.

  • Intra-fraction Motion Management: The system continuously monitors the patient's position during the treatment delivery. If the patient moves beyond a predefined threshold (e.g., due to respiration, discomfort, or involuntary motion), the system can automatically pause the beam or alert the therapists. This proactive safety feature prevents irradiation of healthy tissue and ensures the tumor receives the full prescribed dose.

  • Support for Frameless Techniques: In specialized treatments like cranial radiosurgery, which traditionally required invasive rigid frames, SGRT enables accurate and comfortable frameless setups, improving the patient experience without compromising precision.
